The weather held out this weekend for the end of the Mission tennis club’s annual tournament at Centennial Park Courts.
About 22 club members played the final 15 matches Saturday and Sunday in a round-robin style.
“It’s pretty good competition and people really enjoy having lots of games to play,” said club member Val Gervais.
The men’s doubles title was taken by Jerry Vos and Tone Duncan against Ken Herar and Gino Hu with a final score of 6-4,6-7, 6-1, and in women’s doubles, Jane Thorup and Val Gervais beat Samantha Nickels and Donna Borzelli 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.
Ken Herar beat Jerry Vos in the men’s singles 6-4, 6-1, and Samantha Nickel beat Donna Borzelli in the women’s singles 6-1, 6-0.
The mixed doubles winning team was Samantha Nickel and Ken Herar against Mark and Val Gervais with a final score of 7-5, 6-2.
The Mission tennis club holds two tournaments each year, a fun tournament in July and “the big one,” the year-end final in September.
Gervais said the club is grateful to many local businesses for their donations for prizes, and to the District’s recreation department for help in preparing the courts for the tournament.
